How to register a birth

If you want to register the birth of a child born in Bosnia and Herzegovina you may do so at the British Embassy Consular Section in Sarajevo.

For this purpose you will need following documents:

  • Application form (available at Consulate)
  • The child’s full overseas birth certificate naming both of the parents
  • The father’s full birth certificate, or if born outside the United Kingdom, documentary evidence of his claim to British nationality, e.g. naturalisation or registration certificate
  • The mother’s full birth certificate, or if born outside the United Kingdom, documentary evidence of her claim to British nationality, e.g. naturalisation or registration certificate
  • The parent’s marriage certificates and, if appropriate, evidences of the termination of any previous marriage of either parent
  • Father’s or mother's British passport
  • Consular registration fee 225 BAM (£98) payable only in local currency
  • If you require a copy of the registration entry there is additional fee of 145BAM (£63)
