Embassy history
The British Embassy in Sarajevo was first established in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 1994. From that time on, the Embassy has been located in a small villa in downtown Sarajevo, in 8 Tina Ujevica street. When it was established, the Embassy was more of a 'British Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina', until the building was officially opened as the British Embassy in 1997, following refurbishment.
The Visa and Consular Section, as well as our UK Trade & Investment, DFID office and Management Office, are located in an another building nearby, in 11 Petrakijina street. The Embassy does plan, however, to move to a new location in the future, where all the offices will be located in one building.
The British Embassy Office in Banja Luka opened in April 1998, not long after the Embassy was officially established.
